Forestry mulchers are extremely capable machines when used in the right application. Overgrowth and unusable land can be opened up with the added benefit of erosion control and increasing the organic makeup of your soil.
Forestry mulching uses a tracked machine with a heavy grinding head on the front. It cuts standing brush, saplings, cedar, and small trees and grinds them into wood chips on the spot.
Because the machine runs on tracks and only touches the surface, you are not left with ruts, gouges, or bare dirt washing down the hill after the first hard rain.
The old way of clearing land meant a dozer, a burn pile, and a mess that took months to settle. A dozer pushes everything into a heap, tears up your topsoil, and leaves you with a permit to pull and a pile to deal with before anything else can happen.
Mulching skips all of it. There is nothing to haul off, nothing to burn, and no stumps left sticking up.
The chips stay on the ground and do real work. They hold your soil in place through the spring rains, keep moisture in, and break down into the ground over the next couple of seasons.
On slope, that layer is the difference between keeping your topsoil and watching it go down the hill.
